South Fork Licking River Cleanup on August 22, 2019

A volunteer group, co-sponsored by the Licking River Watershed Watch, comprised of 3M employees and local volunteers pulled 108 tires and other trash from a section of the Licking River on August 22nd. Barth Johnson and Anthony Ecklar have been organizing clean up events in the Harrison County area since 2014. These volunteer groups have pulled approximately 500 tires from the river. According to Ecklar the volunteers are "making a difference one tire at a time". Thaxton's Canoe Rentals provided the group with canoes, L&L Landscaping and Thomas Ware were able to provide the volunteers with river access and a place to store the tires collected. Judge Executive, Alex Barnett along with the Harrison County Road Department provided pick up and proper disposal of the tires and trash. Over the past few years, these volunteer groups lead by Johnson and Ecklar have cleaned sections from Lair to the Poindexter Dam.
