Who We Are

The Licking River Watershed Watch (LRWW), INC, established in 1998 as part of the Kentucky Watershed Watch Program, is a 501c3 non-profit organization that spans 19 counties from eastern KY to northern KY.

Mission Statement:

The Licking River Watershed Watch works to protect, improve, and restore the waters of the Licking River Basin by promoting water quality monitoring, public education, and citizen action.

The LRWW is a volunteer citizen-based organization. The volunteers monitor streams throughout the watershed, conducting synoptic sampling three times each year, during high flow (spring), normal flow (summer), and low flow (fall) conditions. A variety of data has been collected since 1998. This data includes dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, temperature, nutrients, fecal coliform (including E. coli), flow conditions, habitat assessments, and biological macroinvertebrarte assessments. Water quality information is used by the state and others to improve the health of streams.

The LRWW is governed by an elected Steering Committee. The leadership team also consists of Science Advisors, a watershed-wide Sampling Coordinator, a Volunteer Training Coordinator, the KY Division of Water Basin Coordinator, a Data Manager, Area Coordinators who coordinate sampling events in their areas of the watershed, and a Webmaster.
